The regulation that has been in force in Poland since 1 February will be maintained for at least the first half of next year, said the head of government Mateusz Morawiecki on Tuesday. Basic foodstuffs such as meat, fish, dairy products, fruit, and vegetables are exempt from VAT.
This follows the European Commission’s decision to prevent Poland from reducing the heating tax to zero, as this is not foreseen in the EU VAT directive.
Polish inflation continues to gallop, rising to 17.9 per cent in October 2022 from 16 per cent in September.
