Europe is at a crucial turning point: with challenges such as intra-European cohesion, climate change and the digital transformation ahead of us, our continent is undergoing more change than ever.
Above all, Europe also means diversity and community, overcoming borders and conflicts, and networking in both an economic and social sense. That is why we have embarked on our “Mission Europe” and are meeting personalities who are contributing to Europe’s economic and social progress with their companies and organisations. We talk to them about successes, challenges, motivations… and of course, above all, about Europe!
The hidden champion from Styria.
The first episode of “Mission Europe” takes us to Styria in Austria, to niceshops, a true hidden champion and a European company. Founded in 2007, rather atypically for a start-up in the countryside, niceshops sells a good 150,000 products worldwide via various portals.
We wanted to learn more about an entrepreneur who chose this region instead of Vienna, Graz, or Berlin to set up his company and met the founder and CEO of niceshops, Roland Fink.
Free movement of goods vs. overregulation – Quo vadis, EU?
In an interview with eClear founder and CEO Roman Maria Koidl, Roland Fink takes us behind the scenes at niceshops.
The fact is that 90% of his business is international, i.e. cross-border sales to various European countries: “That’s the real irony of the European Union and European trade. We have a situation called the free movement of goods, but it is associated with a massive number of regulations.”
In short: processes and love
niceshops combine numerous product shops under one roof — from natural cosmetics to e-bikes. One thing was clear to Roland Fink from the outset: to successfully build a company geared towards growth, processes are needed above all: “That was the main issue that always haunted us.”
And it requires love Because “without love for the product, it is very difficult to get ahead”.
