EPPO uncovers massive fraud at Latvian university

The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) in Riga is currently conducting searches in the city of Daugavpils, Latvia, including at Daugavpils University, as part of an investigation into suspected fraud in connection with European Union social funds. by

Estimated damage to 600,000 EUR

The estimated damage amounts to 600,000 EUR. The suspects, one of whom is a high-ranking official at the university, are alleged to have committed fraud by manipulating specifications in public procurement procedures and driving up costs. The investigation also indicates that some funds were channelled to companies in other EU member states.

Ongoing investigations

The searches, which are being carried out with the support of the Economic Crime Department of the Latvian State Police, are ongoing. The EPPO has not released any further information about the investigation.
